« on: Tuesday 18 April 17 05:29 BST (UK) »
I am looking for info on John and Mary Dykes. Married in Warnambool,Victoria Australia 1849. They had a daughter Mary Ann 1858 Belfast, Victoria. Where did John and Mary come from? was he a convict?I know there were 4 John Dykes in South Australia at that time, its to get the right one. This one died before 1884. Thanks

Marriage
DYKES John
KELLY Mary
1849  Reg#30480   Denomination C of E  Parish Belfast.  Fiche#444

Any of their children's birth certificates post civil reg will give you their ages and places of birth.  I see there are a few birth regs.  You can purchase an image online and immediately download.

Why do you think John was from South Australia?

I've been researching John Dykes for a couple of months now and from looking up info it does seem there were at least 4 of them in the Victoria, Melbourne area around the same time. My great grandmother is the Mary Ann Dykes. She immigrated to NZ and our family knows nothing of her history, so all this is of interest to us.I have reason to believe that Mary may be Mary (Kelly) irish orphan before she married John a few months after she came to Warnambool.

Do you have Mary Ann's birth certificate?  Other names on the indexes for her mother Mary are Mary KELLY and Mary Elizabeth KELLY.

Yes I've just ordered the original copy. Can you please tell me, as im new to all this. Does the original copy sometimes have more information on it, than the summary that you see when you order online? The summary i ordered off only had Mary (Dykes) as her mothers name. Thanks for your help with this.

When you purchase a image of a Victorian certificate online you are purchasing an image of the the page of the register in that era.    Yes the 1858 birth reg has Mary DYKES as the mother's name but OTHER DYKES births at Belfast and environs had Mary and Mary Elizabeth KELLY as the mother.  And her Mary was seeking her sister Betsy KELLY in 1855.

I always purchase the online image.

The 'summary' is an index.
