Hi there,
I was given a batch of scanned family photos. There is nothing other than the photo, for example I don't have the back as I've not seen the original. I'm unable to access the original now as the contact is no longer with us.
I'm guessing that this is of my grandmother, Kath Kempe. If it is, she was born in April 1897 in NSW Australia.
The photo does need some restoration (if anyone has a chance to do so, I'd be grateful) but wondering if there are any hints that might help with a date. The child seems to be around 18 months old which would date this as late 1898. Is there an expert who might be able to pick out something in terms of dress, decoration etc that might definitively place this in Australia? My grandfather who is the other possibility was born in Belfast in 1898.
I'm inclined to think it was my grandmother as that family were financially comfortable and in a position to afford to have a photo - I'm guessing that these weren't cheap at the time.
There seem to be some biro marks on the child's right shoulder as well as the dog's face. The fact that the child seems to have bows in her hair make me think it is more likely to be a girl.
Kath was the only girl in the family, she had 6 brothers, so perhaps all the more reason a photo was taken.
Any help in confirming or refute all this is thankfully received.
