Please tidy up this sailor: Alan Robert James Carter (1925-1957)
« on: Tuesday 25 April 17 15:08 BST (UK) »
I should be very grateful if someone could tidy up this small photograph of my late father in his working overalls, which was taken during his time in the RN (1943-1946).  Unfortunately my late mother disposed of the rest of the photograph, which I assume would have shown the setting or a group of his shipmates. My father was variously based in Portsmouth, on the Clyde and Freetown (now Sierra Leone), serving as a Submarine (U-Boot) Detector on many ships.
Many thanks

Thank you very much to both of you for your efforts. I'm not sure where mum kept the photograph and why the top half became so crumpled.  I found it amongst her things when she passed away a few years back.

Best wishes from Chester

Some of the damage was beyond my ability. And being your father, and soldier, I apologize it is not a flawless restoration.

Side note: I was " cussing like a sailor" while working on this.

Great work all.  Thank you so much for the time you have spent on this.  I do not have too many photographs of my late father so it is nice to see his smiling face emerge from the cracks of this seventy year old picture.

Thank you again
