George Cowden Marriage/s

Hi Neale, thank you for your reply, I do have the above certs but cannot find his birth cert. When I did a Cowden surname search it shows there was a place called Cowden and Cowden's have lived in England and Ireland and Scotland. It would seem I need to spend a lot of time searching different counties. I have done searches on Familysearch and findmypast and free reg and scotlandpeople sites.

You will not find a birth certificate, as he was born a long time before civil registration.
The most you can hope to find is a baptism, but as you are aware there is none to be found. There are many reasons why this may be the case.

I am quite interested in your Cowden connection in Paisley.
I have William Cowden and Catherine Jack having 4 children born in Paisley in the late 1700's and one in Lochwinnoch in the 1770s.
They were my 4 x great grandparents , my 3 x great grandmother Margaret Cowden died in Drygate Glasgow in 1864. Her sister Mary Cowden died in Stock Street , Paisley in 1858 .
I would be extremely interested if you think we have a connection.

William Cowden & Catherine Jack are my 5x Great Grandparents. They had a daughter Margaret Cowden who married a Robert Fraser

According to the Glasgow Herald dated 16th Nov 1878, Hugh Mckay (spirit
dealer) was assaulted by his assistant in a public house in the High Street,
Glasgow on the 7th Nov. His assistant (a man named Reid) was charged with
assault but this was changed to murder following Hugh McKay's death.

I do not have information regarding the outcome of the trial yet but will
email you if something becomes available
