Missing Hogben
« on: Friday 29 July 05 07:37 BST (UK) »
Hoping someone can help me with info on Richard Hogben b 27Aug 1825 Kent???  I have everything on him since he arrived in Australia in 1848.  Who were his parents? Someone listed John & elizabeth, but I can't find anything to confirm that. Did he have siblings?  Any info would be appreciated.

Cheers
Marcia

hi Marcia!

As Richard was born in Eythorne, Kent.  Could his parents be John Hogben born around 1772 Eythorne and Elizabeth White born around 1776.

They married on 18th Feb, 1797 Eythorne, Kent.

Kind regards
Hoppity :)

Hi Hoppity,
Thankyou so much. I am not sure if they are his parents, poor Elizabeth would have been 49yrs old when Richard was born but this info gives me something to work on when I get back as I will be away for a short time.
I wanted to thank you before I left.

Cheers
Marcia

Bumping a very old thread but have come across this as John is my great great great great grandfather.  I have only just started tracing the Assender, Everett, Hogben line so this thread has been so very helpful.

I have a transcription of register records from Eythorne Baptist Chapel.

Three should be of interest the first being for Richard the details as follows:-

Richard s/o John and Elizabeth HOGBEN – birth 27 August 1825 in Uffam (sic) in all probability it should read Hougham!  ::)

Ann d/o John and Elizabeth HOGBEN – birth October 1817 in Coldred
Benjamin s/o John and Elizabeth HOGBEN – birth 24 May 1823 in Coldred

I have found a marriage record later than the one previously posted and that took place at St Mary’s Dover but the groom was said to be of the Parish of Hougham.

John HOGBEN to Elizabeth HOPPER 20 April 1805

Whether these following are of the same family I cannot be certain but the dates fit fairly well and the baptisms took place at Coldred.  ???

William s/o John & Elizabeth HOGBEN 1 March 1807
John s/o John & Elizabeth HOGBEN 2 February 1812 – bn 1 Jan 1812

I hope this may be of some help.  ???

Regards,
Tony

Thanks Tony.  :)

I'm currently googling away here, trying to see if an old Hogben family photo pops up. I always wonder what my ancestors look like.
