Thank you. In the first instance, she was going to ask citizens advice if it was worth paying a solicitor. One third of the house price was approx £7-8k

Some solicitors will give a certain amount of time free in the hopes that follow up business will follow.

Try Citizens Advice, but as she has quite a specialised problem, may not be able to help.

Just an update.  Friend has spoken to a solicitor, and has arranged an appointment.  Solicitor said to email all history, background and any information she has, and then when she sees her it will be for advice rather than waste time explaining things, so very helpful.
