London Road Civic Cemetery, Coventry - WILSON
« on: Monday 01 May 17 08:30 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know if the MIs for the above cemetery are available to search online please? I've found endless information on the Cemetery but not having any luck in finding the indices to search.

Or maybe someone is able to do a lookup in a resource they own?

I'm interested in finding if there are anymore details for a John WILSON who was buried on the 23 Dec 1851 aged 69, and that's all I know.

My John Wilson was born in Dunbrook, Longnor, Staffordshire in 1782 and I've been hunting for him for years, I have found him in the 1851 census living in Aston, near Birmingham, Warwickshire, aged 69, a builder & cabinet maker born in Dunbrook, Longnor with his wife Jemima aged 63 born in Birmingham.

I simply cannot find either of them in the 1841 or 1861 census! I've just stumbled over this burial in the London Rd Civic Cemetery, right name, right age, so now I need to know if there are any more details on this burial that would help me to say yes it's him?

Help needed please......Dawn

Hi Dawn

As you have some exact information about the burial date, contact Bereavement Services here

http://www.coventry.gov.uk/directory_record/30/london_road_cemetery

they should be able to help with a last known address for example.

As to whether there is a headstone, depends how financially affluent the family were. Headstones even today are really expensive.

Also, if he's buried in a common grave with many unrelated people, there won't be a headstone.

Hi Dawn

Thank you for that, I had already come across that webpage in my travels but hadn't thought to email them asking for help at the time, have done it now. Will let you know if I have any success.

Hi Dawn
It seems that this John Wilson lived in Little Park Street in Coventry, and appears to be buried on his own. (I have the disc with Coventry Burials) and on looking at the 1851 census there is a John Wilson living at Little Park Street, So i don't think he's your John Wilson

Kindest Regards

Thanks so much Brummygirl,

My John Wilson was living in Park St, Aston near Birmingham in 1851, he's a builder & cabinet maker and his wife is Jemima, is that the same John Wilson you found in 1851?

I've only just heard back from the cemetery staff today apologising for the late reply, she is going to look for me over the next 7 days but I don't know if she'll have any more information other than what you have on the CD, we'll see.

Thanks again......Dawn

Ah no, I found the John Wilson living in Little Park St, Coventry you were referring to, retired coal dealer aged 68 born in Coventry.

So it's back to the drawing board I guess!
