1841 Census, where do I look please?
« on: Monday 01 May 17 19:19 BST (UK) »
My 2 x great grandparents should be somewhere in Kent in 1841 but I've never been able to find them.   Now new info has come to light that they may have been in Sheerness and if they are there they must have been missed out or mistranscribed.   Unfortunately I can't find Sheerness listed in 1841...  Does anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks for any help.

Don't forget as well that ages were rounded down, so you need to allow for that.

The names are William (30ish), Hannah (25ish) and Edward JONES (1).   It's not so much that I can't find them but I want to trawl through Sheerness and it isn't an option when I look at the 1841 census on Ancestry.   William was a Royal Marine, so could have been at sea.   Hannah was collecting her allotment in Sheerness - apparently.

If you take any ancestor and go to search, then new search, any event, 1941 Sheerness Kent, eliminate everything but historical records, select census 1841 it should give you Sheerness records or it did for me.

My mistake, it merely gave me people who were born in Sheerness.

Sheerness comes under Minster, Sheppey.

Reference for one of the 1841 pages I have is HO 107/474/14

Hope that gives you somewhere to start from.

Problem with that is it's 1841 so no birthplaces are shown.
