Who was Ann Jepson ?
« on: Friday 12 May 17 13:02 BST (UK) »

Ann Jepson married John Bamford 30 April 1810 at South Normanton.  She died in 1839 aged 54 (wife of John Bamford)
Most trees on a well known site have this Ann as the one baptised  7 March 1786 to Thomas & Elizabeth in South Normanton, but that one died and was buried 27 Nov 1789.  Burial entry states she was the dau of Thomas & Elizabeth and a second Ann was baptised to them in 1790.
I know she may have been a widow when she married, but I've checked the Jepson marriages before 1810 and nothing seems to fit.

Any help and suggestion would be great

Thanks
Carol

(Question for info only!  :D)

How many Jepson families were there in South Normanton and distrcit at the time? Was she related to the Ann Jepson who married Isaac Ball in 1815?

Oh Sunflower, if you can't find her, how are we mere mortals supposed to help!

I like this family as in 1841 John Bamford and some of his children were living at Pinxton Wharf where some of my lot lived.

At the moment I can only offer negative info.  Ann Jepson didn't start life as Ann Ball, Ann Farnsworth, Ann Gent or Ann Stendal.  Any thoughts on who the Ann Jepson who mar William Bates 26/9/1808 South Normanton was?

Hi DJ

Nice to hear from you again.

I have eliminated Ann Gent, Ann Ball & Ann Stendal, but have found nothing for Ann Farnsworth. I can't see a marriage or burial for her.

I think the Ann Jepson who married William Bates was the one baptised 7.12. 1783 to Edward & Ann(Potter)  There is a burial for Ann Bates 13 Feb 1837 aged 54.

There seems to be more marriages in Sth Normanton for Ann Jepson's than there are baptisms.

Thanks
Carol

'Twas ever thus! That's bedevilling my Ball, Kyte et al lines. Although I don't know where the actual source came from, Pamela Sharpe reports that the population of South Normanton was only 588 souls in 1788. Add in a similar number for the surrounding settlements - but how may Ann Jepsons (or Hannah Balls for that matter) of roughly the same age would you expect in a relatively small geographical area?
