New mystery brother
« on: Thursday 25 May 17 18:01 BST (UK) »
On the opposite side of our tree to the Handleys we have Thextons and Lilleys. My Grandmother wrote on the front of a photo Brother Bert. She has two brothers Harry 1899 and Rolland Wynne 1911. This photo looks earlier than that. Her Mum had 2 brother Joseph 1877 and John Thomas (unfortunate name).1879'not really any names you would associate with'Bert'?
The lady was supposed to be an Aunt Jobe?
What do people think?
I am trying to add photo but not working so far???
It won't let me attach image ? too big?

If I am looking at the right Thomas he appears to have married in 1914 to a Lily Holt in Sheffield.

There is also a likely death for him in 1971 in Claro, Yorkshire

My Great Grandmother was Sarah Ann Lilley , husband Thomas Rolland  Thexton. My Grandmother has passed away and my Dad says that Sarah Ann did not have a child of this name? So I am wondering if he was a cousin maybe?

Well that is always possible.  It means that you will have to go backwards in order to try and find the link.

The marriage of Thomas and Sarah was in 1893

Thomas Rowland's father was John Barnabas Thexton.  This is from the Yorkshire Marriages Transcripton on Find My Past.

You may well find that you have to research most of the Thexton family in order to find out who 'Bert' was and where he fits in.

In 1901 the family are not together - Thomas Rowland is a boarder and listed as single (could be an error by the landlord). Haven;t found Sarah yet.

Do you have access to 1911 - the number of children born and still living might be of interest. Thomas Gilbert would be a fair bit older than his sisters - may be he was boarded out when the parents were apart for some reason, stayed in Sheffield when they moved away and they weren't really in contact with him. He was a Bombadier in WWI, but can;t find a service record which might have useful info
