So we think Thomas Gilbert was Sarah and And Thomas Rowland Thextons son? It is strange that he didn't' live with them?

Thomas Gilbert was born in 1894 on the following census he was a Visitor, this does not mean he was not normally living with his family  :)  He was attested in 1908 so was most likely away from home in 1911

His baptism is on FindMyPast  ;D

According to the attestation papers she was born on 16 July 1916.

I did wonder if the Holt was a second christian name

I read the name as Vera but I did suggest someone else looking in case I misread the name.  It does appear that the first letter of the name has been written over.

I would appreciate someone else looking just to check what they think the first name is.

I did have a look & to me it says Vera but it looks like another initial was initially going to be written so likewise I would say her middle name is Holt nor can I think of a name which would/could be shortened to Vera :-\

What I was looking at was this record:-

Royal Artillery Attestations 1883-1942

The years mentioned are the period of time that the records cover.  Thomas joined in 1908 and it is on this record that I found the mention of Vera.

I'm going to send you a pm re the record.

He may have been living with them and just staying elsewhere that one night.

I made that mistake with my grandmother's aunt - the census had said that 6 out of 13 children were living - and listed 4 children, with several older ones I knew had married.  I had found a death in 1910 in the right area with the right name and age of Kate, who was the next sister to my great grandmother and had assumed she was one of the 7 who had died, and didn't think much of it.

Till my nan mentioned before her mother died she insisted on my nan taking her aunt Kate her birthday card and flowers a day early because it'd be too late if she waited till the following day (Kate's actual birthday) - she died that night.  Then I realised if Kate was alive in the 1960s she was definately alive in 1911 - found her with an elderly aunt, she must have been visiting that night, as she lived at home with her parents

Hi re the Royal Artillery attestation,  did he lie re his year of birth as 1908 minus 1894 gives his true age as 14, oddly I think he sticks to b c 1891 in 1939?

Jacqueline one of the children looks to have married December qtr 1946 to a Henry Reeves in Sheffield as Jacqueline THIXTON and she possibly died 2005 in Wigan area?
