California Passenger List - July 1950
British Commonwealth Pacific Airlines, Ltd.
Embarkation - Vancouver B.C.; Disembarkation: San Francisco
Christiana Simpson, 1880 Jackson, San Francisco, Cal.  Age 56, Naturalized American.  "Pers. wt": 95.  (Looking at entries for other passengers, that could have been her weight. There is a column for "Bag wt.", so it wasn't the weight of luggage.)

1940 San Francisco Census
Christina was living at 1880 Jackson Street

1969-70 San Francisco City Directory
Christina Simpson, Retd  H 1790 Jackson Street, Apt 503
She is also in the 1964 directory (also retired, I believe), but she isn't shown in the 1962 directory.  Those were the only ones I looked through.
http://www.sfgenealogy.com/sf/sfdatadir.htm
Once you view the listing of directories, you can search them by clicking on "IA".

...And thanks for the links to the 1930 and 1940 censuses - the immigration date of 1920 ties in, so it does look as though she continued her rather sad life as a servant, in Seattle then San Francisco...

I lived in San Francisco for a number of years.  "That part" of Jackson Street was in a beautiful, somewhat upscale (or even more than somewhat!) neighbourhood in San Francisco (I believe it still is quite a lovely neighbourhood).

Since she is shown as retired and still living on Jackson Street in the 70's, I wonder if she was able to save money during her working years and had a comfortable life in her later years?  Or, possibly she shared her living quarters with someone else?  At any rate, there is the possibility that she had a good life as she grew older.  :)

Well done Lisa - nice details to be able to fill the poster in on the neighbourhood Christina lived in.

Regards

Hi Sandra:

Thank you for your help with her brother's details.   :)

I used to park about three blocks away from her address and walk to work to the financial district.  (The parking fees in the financial district were too high for my entry-level job, and I love walking so I parked there and had an enjoyable walk to work and a dreadful walk back to the car (climbing the California Street hill was not pleasant at the end of the day, walking in heels).   ;D
