WAUGH in Durham
« on: Wednesday 28 July 04 14:47 BST (UK) »
I'm after anything on Kate Stuart WAUGH. She was born in Hebburn in about 1866. I've had no luck finding her dob or marriage to Joseph Dodds LAWSON. She was living in Jarrow in 1887.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks Peter,
I tried both links you gave but couldn't find either of them, curiously.
Someone gave me the info from 1891 and 1901 censuses which gave me their names and areas, all of which are in the Durham district. I have ordered their marriage cert so hopefully that will shed some light on them. I have, from a census that Kate Stuart Waugh was born in Hebburn, Durham and was 25 in 1891 so have been looking for her birth either side of 1866, but nothing.
Is it possible to search the 1871 or 1881 census for that name? Just thinking maybe the birthplace was wrong as i'm quite confident her name is correct.
Thanks again.

Hi Barry

Just finished searching the 1871 and 1881 and found nothing that would fit all the criteria, there was two families named Waugh with Hebbon but non with a Kate or Catherine.
It may be best if you waited now for the cert, then we could search more confidently knowing her fathers name.
please attach another post to this thread when you need help

good luck

Hi Peter,
I just had an email from a chap who saw my request. He found a Catherine Waugh, aged 16, b. Jarrow plus poss her father and a sister of 8. It's from 43 New Grange Road West, Hedworth, Monkton and Jarrow district. I believe Hebburn and Jarrow are close together and her age is about right. It shows a Thomas Waugh, prob father.
You're right, I need the cert.
Thanks again for your help.
Cheers

HI Jan,
Many thanks for looking that up, that certainly looks like them! It's all pieceing together now. Seems the Thomas I thought was her father is actually her brother. In 1881 census Kate (shown as Catherine), Thomas and Annie who was 8, are boarding with a Johnstone family. As there was no parents shown, I suspect they may have died perhaps. Itching to get the marriage cert now.
Thanks again Jan ;D

Hi Geoff,
Finally found the marriage cert I lost as soon as it arrived.
Thomas' father was Matthew, so unfortunately not the same chap.
Cheers
