Main Family, Portmahomack

Hi there,

I am seeking information about Janet Main, born about 1852 in Portmahomack.  Her parents are Alexander Main and Janet Main (as listed on Janet's marriage registration).

I know that Janet was in Greenock Glasgow in 1878 when she married John Easton.

I am trying to find more of her Main family, and I am hoping someone can find them on the censuses.

I think Janet's siblings may have been Isabella, (born Portmahomack)William and Margaret, (born in nearby Tarbet)  but as yet no PROOF that these are in the same family....just what was in the IGI.

Father Alexander was a seaman.

I can't help you with the census, sorry
but I had a look at the Deaths of a Janet main/Main.
and there are 2 to choose from.

1889 Janet Main 71 yrs, other name Main-goss & Storm. 1889.
1887 Janet Dunlop Main, 67yrs, other name Main& Barron & Dunlop,  both from Nairn.

Don't be put off by the fact that the daughter hasn't mentioned the other marriages of the mother.
Sometimes this did happen, ie.......
They only mention what is relevant to themselves, her father & mother.

Thanks for that information kenjo.  Much appreciated, but I think the Janets there are a little old, though of course I may be wrong.

I looked up my Janet Main's (M. John Easton) death certificate at SP and found that John was the informant and gives Janet's mother's maiden name as Wallace.  First time I have seen that, and it may be inaccurate, but now I have another clue to follow up.

Unfortunately no Janet Wallaces married Alexander Main in the right time frame that I can see!
