Is it possible you could list what you do know to save others researching what you already know?

You must know some details to have arrived at...

Hi there Martin,

May I ask a very direct question ...

:) Do you have documentation showing Mary Ann (a female name) as a male ?  - 'brother' to your ancestor

South Australia genealogy website, free to search … https://www.genealogysa.org.au/resources/online-databases.html

Marriage
Ephraim HAINES married Mary Ann HARMER, registered in 1855 in the Adelaide district Ref #22/533

I cannot see any births registered to the couple listed on that website.

Death/Burial
Mary HARMER,  James HARMER (H) relative, registered in Adelaide district in 1855, ref #3/145
St James Anglican Cemetery (Blakiston), 1855, Mary HARMER

I think this thread would benefit from being moved to the Australia board, there's quite a number of experienced RChatters familiar with South Australia researching.

http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/59233106 The Register 29 July 1912

HANES, On the 27th July, at the Adelaide Hospital, Ephraim, dearly beloved husband of Mary Ann Haines of Teatree Gully, in his 78th year.  At rest.

http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/124826016 Daily Herald 19 Sept 1912  Probate granted without the codicil re Ephraim HAINS, late of Teatree Gully, gardener. .

http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/59230029 The Register 1 Aug 1912
Mr Ephraim Haines, who died at the Adelaide Hospital on Saturday, in his seventy-eighth year, was a pioneer colonist, having arrived in south Australia with his parents in 1840 by the ship William Mitchell. ….. An invalid widow survives.

The obit mentions that Ephraim’s brother was Mr William HAINES, who at one time represented the district of Gumeracha in Parliament.  NO mention of any children for the couple.

Hello,

A published tree shows those as siblings of Ephraim not children.
These are the names linked to the tree plus other births to William and Jane (Cook) in Australia.

Family tree for Ephraim

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NBLF-WXX

There are other entries for the siblings.
