Could this photo be from 1910? W. JOHNSON Bank chambers
« on: Friday 14 July 17 03:24 BST (UK) »
Based on the fashion and ages, what would be a date (or date range) for this photo?

The photo is marked "W. JOHNSON Bank chambers Pitt & Market Sts" which was at that Sydney address from 1902. I only have a scan, not the original.

This couple married in 1910, so could this have been taken as their wedding photo? If it is 1910, he would be about 44 and she would be about 40, and second marriages for both.

Also, he seems to have a scar on his face which the photographer may have adjusted the light for - what do you think?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts

M :)

If you wanted to see a photo from C. 1910 this would be it.
Her brimless hat would have just arrived in 1910.
White ties/cravats were worn only for formal occasions such as weddings.
You can see the shading is more on him than her which is no accident.
So a 1910 wedding photo would be about right I would suggest.
A couple of centuries earlier a "duelling scar" like that would have been very fashionable.

I have lightened the photo to show the scar better. It is difficult to say what the scar is, or could it be vitiligo, or even a water mark when processing. If you look at the lady she also has a mark on her cheek.
The second photo I have removed the marks to see which you would prefer.

Thanks Jim, that gives me a context for the photo. I had until now assumed it was taken a few years earlier, so hadn't connected it with their wedding before  :)

Thanks Trishanne, I do like the scar, this couple have some mysteries in their past and his scar may be a clue! I hadn't noticed the mark on Eva's cheek before, so thank you for pointing it out. I'm hoping to see the original soon for a closer inspection and to get a high-res copy.  :)
