Ian:  Here is a newspaper account of Carl Bjorklund and Emma Swensson's wedding in Bridgeport, CT in 1895.  Can you translate it for me?

Here we go. I am not a journalist so the wording might be a little off but it is close:

"A pleasant Swedish wedding celebrated this last Saturday afternoon when Mr. Carl Björklund and Miss Emma Svensson were united through matrinomy. The wedding was held at the Swedish Baptist Church and was performed by Pastor Wilhelm Johansson. Miss Emma Björklund, the groom's sister, E. Eliason, Olivia Sanford from Naugatuck, Ct., and Olivia Vergin acted as the bridesmaids. The marshalls were Mr. Otto Magnuson, Carl Carlson, Sanfrid Björklund and Edward Björklund. After the marriage the reception was held at the home C.A.Björklunds at 65 Wood Ave. The presents the young pair received were many and expensive."

Wow!  Anything you can find out about Carl...if it's not too far out of your way? Are there any books with information there that are not available online?

I have been to Sweden once, back in the 1980s. I'm definitely going to plan a trip in the next couple of years and visit the places where my ancestors lived.

You had mentioned you moved part of our chat to the Europe thread a couple weeks ago. I was trying to find out about life on these farms back in the 1800s. Can you tell me which thread that was? Or is there a good one you can recommend where you think I could ask this question?  I'm sure it's been asked many times before, so the answers are probably already out there. I've checked some websites and they have helped. But I find websites like this one extremely helpful because there are so many knowledgeable people.  Let me know.

Thanks,

Paul

Hi
I'll take a look and see what I can find.
Your thread wasn't moved to Europe. It was this thread that was started.

Ok.  Got it.

Here is a small newspaper article that mentions Carl.  Dewey Street was where he built 3 houses...each 3 stories...for his family members.  Can you translate the article?

Thanks,

Paul

Hi

A dinner party hosted by Mr Karl Björklund, one of Bridgeport's successful Swedish constructors at his home in Dewey Street last Saturday evening. Around 20 of Mr Björklund's family and friends were invited. The guests then consumed a splendid dinner as Pastor Hammerberg was given the honour by the hosts to hold a speech which was very appropriate and humorous especially on Mr. Björklund's 45th birthday. The whole gathering gave their best wishes. The evening continued with song and conversation. The grateful atmosphere was prevailing.

Awesome!  Thanks!  My mother is going to love this. She grew up in one of those houses on Dewey Street.
