On ArkivDigital there the Inventory of Estates for Peter Öfverman and Per Göran Öfverman.

Per Göran died in 1843 1842 in Rök Parish:

Thanks!  It looks like from the link that he died 8 Oct 1842.  Did I read that right?

I don’t have the subscription for ArkivDigital anymore.  Did that site become free or would I have to buy a new subscription?  I bought a few subscriptions last year when I was doing a lot of research.

Yes he died then. Just noticed I had written 1843. (now corrected).

ArkivDigital is not free unfortunately.
I did notice that Harstad Parish on Arkivdigital has a lot more books to go through including marriage and death books which are for some reason not on Riksarkivet. Also you might find some info on Peter in the soldier books in the general muster rolls.

Is there any way to find out when he started using the Ofverman last name?

He would have received that name when he became a soldier.
As I said in the earlier post you might find him in the muster rolls for Harstad or Kumla in the "Första livgrenadjärregementet".
