Looking for my fathers family
« on: Tuesday 25 July 17 22:59 BST (UK) »
Hi I'm hoping someone will help me
My father came to solihull in around 1963/4 to work on demolition of high street met my mother and never returned to his previous life I was born in 1967
My father always refused to discuss his family or background and simply said he had fallen out with his family the only thing I know is he said he was born in bolton Lancashire his name was Daniel Yates born 5/11/1920/3 since he has passed I wanted to trace my heritage and it seems something is not true as no birth records match
I suspect he had something to hide
Does this story ring any bells any family members disappear all those years ago  names dob nah not. E correct any help would be amazing

He was in his 40's when he went to Solihull - could he possibly have already been married at that time?

I can't see a marriage in Solihull 1963-1968.  If your parents married - was it after your birth?

Hi

Where did you get his exact birthdate from - did your father always use that as his birthdate or was it from some other document?  I notice in your post you say 1920/3 which gives a 4yr timespan for his birth

He would presumably have had to produce a birth cert at some point in his life (eg) applying for a National Insurance number or Retirement Pension etc so unless he assumed somebody else's identity there must be some evidence out there - somewhere!!

Somebody varying their birth would tend to use the right month and date but "tweak" the year but that may not be the case here given the significance of 5th November

Was your mother single at the time she had you?

Hi Sandra

Welcome to Rootschat.

Did your father have a driving licence / passport / union membership card / etc.. ?
how likely do you think that "Daniel" was a subsequent forename and not his primary forename?
