This chap is George Brown born 1875 in Wales and married to Mary Ellie b.1877in Ireland.  I know that they were both alive in NY in 1940 but then the trail goes cold.  Is there anyway I can find a record of his death online?

I think that his SSN was 114-09-5575

I can't see anything from your link.  Where did they live in New York?

So that looks like this one?  https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KQ5F-H9W

On the New York City death index, there is a George Brown who died 10 Jan 1955 in the Bronx at age 80.  There are many George Browns on there, but that seems the closest to his age and location.  There are a few Mary Brown possibilities, but none seem an exact fit with the info from the census.

He would indeed have been 80 in 1955.  He does not appear to have had children so I doubt there are any more leads.
Thank you for the help.
