Aloysius James LESTER (aka Woodbridge) was my granduncle. From my research I have found he married Freda Edith Nellie Rogers in Islington in September 1920 (I do not know exact date).
The had a son Peter James LESTER born in 1920 (exact date unknown) born in England prior to the family travelling to Australia in May 1921 on the "Beltana". They remained in Western Australia and had another two children. Aloysius died in 1923. His wife later remarried and had two more children.
If anyone can fill me in on the UK info I am missing in regard exact dates and place of births/marriage it would be greatly appreciated.
I am researching his father Peter Edward LESTER and his mother Matilda Jane WOODBRIDGE. The father was born in Australia but the mother was born in the UK (Berwick, Middlesex) 13/11/1848.

I gather you are the elderly aunt ;D

UK indexes do not detail exact dates, just the year, quarter and registration district.  You will need to purchases the certificates to find the exact dates.

What do you need to know about Aloysius' father?  It is preferable to post the information you have to save us searching for known facts.

Have you searched the digitised newspapers http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/ using his full name?

Have a browse through the links on the Resources Board for various States.

Hello and a warm welcome to Rootschat  :)

As Cando mentions what info. do you already have for UK records so we do not duplicate
our efforts

Do you have her birth certificate to confirm her parents names and father's occupation?

Do you have Peter & Matilda's m/c to confirm their father's names & occupation?

Matilda Jane Woodbridge birth entry FreeBMD https://www.freebmd.org.uk/
Dec qtr. 1848 St James (have edited date as I originally put 1847  ::)
The district St James is an alternative name for St James Westminster and it is in the county of Middlesex

GRO indexes now give a mother's maiden name

Thank you for your comments and the links.
I have given all the details that I have.
I am working backwards and therefore do not have much on which to go.
I have been charged with continuing the research that a deceased relative had started.
She did not have a computer and her notes are all hand written (scrawled) on pieces of paper of varying shapes and sizes. I have now managed to complete the profiles of my grandmother and her 11 siblings and their children and spouses.
I am a novice at all this family history stuff and am quite enjoying it.
Thanks for the links.

Irene

The information in BISA was published in 1986 gleaned from research by the South Australian Genealogy and Heraldry Society now known as SA Genealogy, in archives, public records, private papers, and letters of administrations as well as contributions from individuals.  Not always 100% accurate but it is an excellent resource to use for your South Australian Research.

This entry appears to have been submitted...and possibly by a family member.

LESTER Peter Edward born c1836 London England and died 14 Sep 1925 at Westbourne Park SA   Buried at West Terrace Cemetery.
Arrived 1871 overland from Victoria.
Occupation French Polisher
Lived Adelaide, Norwood, Westbourne Park
Religion Roman Catholic
Married 14 Apr 1873 Matilda Jane nee WOODBRIDGE  Parents Henry and Matilda nee WARD.  Born c1849 England   Died 23 Sep 1922.
Children Peter Henry 1874-, Aloysius, Mary 1875-, Elizabeth, Frank, Edward, Matilda, Agnes, Gertrude, Ann, John. Maurice, Leonard.

Various newspapers items mention that Peter Edward LESTER was Australian born.....but where was he born in Australia?

According to the marriage registration on my resource, his father was John.

LESTER Peter  37 years  Status Single  Father John LESTER
WOODBRIDGE  Matilda Jane  24 years  Status Single  Father Henry WOODBRIDGE
14 Apr 1873
At St Patricks Church, Adelaide   Ade 95/132

Late for me now so if I get a moment I will look at this again tomorrow.  Hopefully someone will have found his birth by then.

Cando
