Wills
« on: Saturday 05 August 17 14:31 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I've located an entry for one of my ancestors George Franks who died in 1939 via the Probate Search website.  It states that his probate was granted in Birmingham in Sept 39 and the money left to his brother & sister.

I made a visit to the library yesterday in search of his will but the book for August - September 39 was incomplete .

I just wanted to check does the wording Probate actually mean he left a will?  If it does I can send for a copy online.

Many thanks.

Probate with no mention of Administration means there was a will. The names mentioned on the probate index are the executors and not necessarily the benefactors

You can send for a copy online through  https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/
the cost £10.  It will be sent digitally within a few days
