Hendrica Kachelhoffer
« on: Wednesday 16 August 17 12:38 BST (UK) »
Hello
I'm new to this website, but not new to searching for family history - although in the past I have searched in the UK and not so much SA.  Please forgive me if I have posted on the wrong board....

I am searching for more information on the entry below:
Name:   Hendrika Christina Kachelhoffer
Death Date:   1893
Volume:   6/9/318
Reference:   1344
Source:   Master's Office / Orphan Chamber, Cape Town (MOOC)
Source Location:   National Archives, Cape Town (KAB)

My maternal great grandmother was Hendrica Christina Wallace (nee Kachelhoffer).  She was married to William Joseph Wallace.  I found a baptismal entry for Hendrica Christina Wallace in the register of St Mary's Barkley West (see below).  Could this be the same person even though the entries are in different places.  Also, could you tell me what the implications are of the record being found in the Orphan chamber?

Name:   Hendrica Christina Wallace
Baptism Age:   0
Event Type:   Baptism
Birth Date:   13 Nov 1892
Baptism Date:   6 Jan 1893
Baptism Place:   South Africa
Father:   William Joseph
Mother:   Hendrica Christina
Church:   St. Mary's Barkley West
Officiant:   A. Standley ALLUM
Witness 1:   Christopher Thornhill
Witness 2:   Catherine Phyffer
Collection:   St. Mary's Barkley West Baptisms

Thankyou

Hi

Welcome to Rootschat.

That is an Estate File notice found on NAAIRS, here is the link to the Death Notice which would form part of that file.

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSQ8-W9WR-M?i=1769&cat=331262

there is quite a bit of information on the notice.  Her maiden name, parents, husband and childrens names are listed.
This one gives a Hendrica Christina nee Scholz as marrying a Philippus Kachelhoffer and a daughter Hendrica Christina Kachelhoffer is listed on the notice as her child having married a Wallace.  So that baptism is possibly for her granddaughter.

There is a custom amongst some families to name the eldest daughter after her mother. It can get confusing at times ;D

MOOC is the Masters office in Cape Town and it handles all estate files for the region, that being of the Cape Province

Hope this helps
