Shropshire Record Office
« on: Monday 01 August 05 10:36 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

I'm going to Shropshire Records Office this Wednesday August 3rd - I MAY have some free time  - it anyone wants me to look up any records please let me know.

From a previous visit Census look ups take a very long time as they are not indexed - so Parish Records would be best for me!

Cheers

Keith

Hi Jan,

Will see what I can find - unusual spelling of your name - might help - might hinder as well as it could be spelt wrongly!!

Might be best to take your email off the main board - have made a note of it now.

Cheers

Hi Keith - I wonder if you could help?

My Gx4 Grandfather, Thomas Lloyd was christened 19 May 1822 in Frodesley Shropshire -  parents Richard & Frances (aka Fanny) Lloyd. Other siblings appear to be Alice (b1823), Richard (b1826), Mary (b1829) & Ann (b1831) - also in Frodesley.

I have been unable to locate a family with a Richard and a Frances/Fanny Lloyd on the 1841 or 1851 census and I think Frances may have died before 1841 possibly in Frodesley. Maybe Richard remarried, hence my difficulty locating him in 1841 and 1851 ???

I don't know if this is possible but is there any chance you could look to see if a burial is registered for a Frances or Fanny Lloyd in Frodesley between 1831 & 1841? If you stumble across a marriage for any Richard Lloyds in the area - any details would also be greatfully recieved.

Alternatively if the 1841 or 1851 census records have a name index, is there any chance you could look to see if there is a suitable match for father Richard with the above children?

Only other info I have is that on Thomas christening record it states that his father's occupation was Labourer and on Thomas' marriage certificate in 1844, his father is recorded as being a farmer.

Hope you can help but totally understand if time dictates otherwise. Feel free to drop me a PM if you need any further info.

Many thanks

Hi Jan,

Sorry - bad news!!   :'( :'(

I had a look for a baptism in Dawley Magna from 1814 to 1817 - couldn't SEE one - it might have been there as some of the entries are now blank/unclear.
I also checked for Dawley Parva but they don't start till later.

And to confound the matter found nothing in Madeley from 1837 - 1840 - again some are very unclear.

Did try!!  :(

Cheers

Hi Nigel,

There are No Lloyds in the index for 1851 census for Frodesley - but someone might be glad you asked!!
have a look here: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,74941.0.html

The only marriage between 1831-1851 for a Lloyd is as follows:
Harris Lloyd to Elizabeth Millington - 1833  - Frodesley
Witnesses - Samuel Purvell - Margaret Jones.

Does seem strange that there was only 1 Lloyd that I could find - thought it was a common name in the area!

I did ask why there were only marriages for Frodesley after 1812 and they couldn't understand - but said it might be such a small parish that they are still using the same book!!
They gave me a contact name for St Mark Frodesley, if you want to give them a ring - PM me if you do - don't want to put that on the main site.

Sorry it's not good news

Cheers

Thanks for checking anyway Keith, much appreciated. Glad your hard work wasn't wasted & benefitted somebody else!  :)

Quick question - is there a name index for the entire 1851 Shropshire Census?

Davies, Edwards, Evans, Griffiths, Hughes, James, Jones, Morgan, Nicholas, Powell, Prytherch, Rees, Williams in Glamorgan, Brecon, PEM, CMN & MGY

Biddle, Budd, Clark/e, Davis/Davies, Elliott, Emery, Harper, Harris, Lloyd, Parsons, Phillips, Pitt, Reed/Reid/Read/Rhead, Rogers, Scandrett, Smith, Tyler & Waldron in Staffs, Worcs, Hef, Cheshire, Shrops., Middlesex & Surrey.

Hi Nigel,

There a lots of separate indexes that have been typed up by different people for each villiage.

These are then bundled into about 12 ledgers - so to find someone you really need to know the village they were in - otherwise its a loooong job!!   ;D ;D

Hope you understand that garble!  ???

Cheers
