I have a few names similar in my tree... James Bell Dow was my great x4 Grandfather... what's the relation to him and Laurence please? I noticed you didn't add the Dow is that because he isn't one?

Which Laurence are you referring to?
There was Laurence Skeen Dow (1819-1880)  who was named after his maternal grandfather, Lawrence Skeen (1763-1838).  There were multiple other Lawrence’s also.
Anderson in Ireland - Renfrewshire
Skene / Skean/ Skeen in Midlothian
Dow in Stirling, midlothian, Renfrewshire
McIlmoil / McIlmoyle in Antrim, Renfrewshire
McGaffigan / McGavigan, McNulty, Murphy Kennedy Hogg and Gamble in Londonderry
Paterson / Patterson, Eaglesham / Eaglesome in Ayrshire
MacPherson , MacLeod, Gillies in Sleat, Invernesshire
Cornfoot, Hogg, Grubb, Ramsay, Auchterlonie in Fife
Neilson, OHara, Baillie in Paisley
