;) Just found this old post....see you found it too, a year ago www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=442516.0

So, from the list of sons showing for Joseph and wife Mary Ann, we can exclude John who died in WW1.

From Anne's details on the other post:

On a slight tangent ......

There is also a John Grahames listed on Coatbridge Civic Memorial (possibly a relation of Elizabeth?) and this same John is possibly listed on Stewart & Lloyd's (Coatbridge) Memorial, see:

http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=7&mforum=warmemscot

If you are interested in following up any Grahames - this John is listed on a family gravestone in Old Monkland Cemetery. He was the son of Joseph and Mary Ann Grahames of Coatbridge. (7th Bn. Royal Scots Fusiliers, Service No. 16224, died/killed 26th September 1915) His brother James was killed in WW2.

Anne

Again from Anne's links, son James born after 1901 who died in WW2 was in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.

So we have sons Edward and Joseph. You have followed Edward? You mention he died in 1976.

The marriage of parents Joseph and Mary Ann gives her maiden name as MCKEVER. Marriage in 1883 in Old Monkland. Daughter Bridget's birth here https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XTFH-XZX

Possible marriage for daughter Bridget Grahames in 1919 to a Joseph Docherty. The cert would let you confirm her parents. I wonder if it includes an occupation for her that could help?

The family seem to like to go by the surname version Grahames? If so, have you checked the possible marriage of Edward in 1924 in Coatbridge?

Well found Monica  ;D

So - do we look for Edward or Ewart Graham/Grahame/Grahames?

Is a father shown on your grandmothers birth cert or her marriage cert?  If so - what christian name is given?

Thank you Monica and Carole : v touched by your support .
The only information comes from a conversation with an elderly aunt.
I would say the certainties are that he was in a kilted regiment stationed at Redford . ( Cameron Highlanders were stationed there at that time ) He was from Lanarkshire with an older sister called Bridget . This was in 1928 . The name is not on the birth certificate. He called himself Ewart but there is no suitable candidate on Scotlands people.
He marched " in front of his men " so I assume he was a Lance Corporal .
Do you think Edward might have been pronounced Ewart ?
I so wish I had asked more questions when I had the opportunity .

You are not alone - that is a sentiment echoed by so many of us including myself.

What year was your gran born and in which county?  Did your gran name a father on her marriage cert?
