What is 'Fold3'?

I recently renewed my Premium Sub to Ancestry.co.uk.

Following a Link from them to 'View new Records', I found my late Uncle's WW1 RFC Record listed. However, when I try to view the actual image, it says that it's only available to view on 'fold3'. It also says that you need Premium Membership; which I have, to open the image.

I've never heard of Fold3! Can anyone on here enlighten me please?

I always think of Fold3 as a way of Ancestry getting more money out of me.    No I don't have access to it but most of what I have seen on there for my family has also been available on FindMyPast or TNA web sites.  In the case of this record his RAF service records are also on F M P

Yes, I have the records thanks, - I was just annoyed that after being directed to Ancestry's New Records, I wasn't able to access them, despite having current subs!

Perhaps I've missed it somehow, but this is the first time I've heard of 'Fold3'. I certainly won't be subscribing to it in addition to Ancestry...

Always wise to go to FindMyPast (if you have it) when faced with Fold 3,  I found it easier to look on there to help back in July.  It does though need subs to both sites which is probably more expensive than Ancestry plus Fold but then FindMyPast has additional stuff.

You can always see if your local library has Findmypast.

Alternatively,  you can buy credits for Findmypast, you don't have to subscribe.

It wasn't getting that record that was annoying me... (I already have it). It was the fact that Ancestry had messaged me inviting me to view new records; which I was unable to open!

It infuriates me as well, I already have a world wide sub, I refuse to pay for anything extra.
