I have mislaid John Wilkie, son of Joseph Storey Wilkie and Marion Black. He was born in Airdrie on 11 March 1830, and baptised there on 4 April 1830.

He emigrated with his parents and siblings to North America. I have them all in the 1850 census in Orange, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.

His parents and siblings all returned to Scotland and are enumerated in Airdrie in 1861 and all subsequent censuses, but John is not there. Did he stay in America?

It must be a different family. My uncle thinks my papa was cousins with that side of your family but not sure. I didn’t realise there was other wilkies in coatbridge I just seen the names and assumed it was a same relation as my family

No, probably not. Joseph's father John was a mason in Airdrie, New Monkland, but I have not found out where he came from; he could have been from Coatbridge, Old Monkland. The name Joseph is from John's wife's family, not from the Wilkie side.

I don't know.

He named his eldest son James, however, and the name James doesn't occur in his wife's family.
