Goodall
« on: Thursday 07 September 17 17:43 BST (UK) »
Hi I am trying to trace my family tree and wondered if anyone had information on the Goodall's. I know they were around Hampshire for approx. the last 200 years with my granddad living on the IoW (Walter Goodall) and he had my dad Harold William Goodall along with several brothers and sisters.

If there is anyone here who has info I love to have a chat about the family line.

thank you
Kevin Goodall

Welcome to Rootschat

Are you just looking to connect with others or do you want help in your research?

For starters - your father was born in 1939 and here is his parents marriage

Marriages June qtr 1933
Walter F Goodall/ Norah Thomas    Isle of Wight    2b   1601

If Walter died in 1993 then he was born Walter Frederick 17.11.1907 and was not born in Hampshire.  His birth was registered after Christmas so falls in the first qtr of 1908

Hi thank you for the info. I knew my grandad passed young. I was trying to see if there was anyone here that had researched that family tree right the way back?

Kevin

If you want to find anyone researching your family look in 'Surname Interests' in 'Your Tools' below.

You need to go and find them, or wait a long time before they find you.

There is no birth reg linking to a 1909/1910 birthyear if he is the 1945 death.

You need to buy a copy of the 1933 marriage cert to establish his fathers name and occupation and also Walters age when he married.

A Walter F Goodall was born in Sussex and birth registered March qtr 1911 which could indicate a late 1910 birth

A Walter Goodall - no middle name - was born Dec qtr 1909 Winchester

The 1911 registered birth was the one that I thought went with the 1945 death.

There is a Goodall family tree on Ancestry which has:
Walter F Goodall born 18th December 1911, in Sussex, died 18th December 1945 in Hampshire, married 1933 to Norah Thomas.  One of 11 children of Dorothy Merritt and James Goodall.

(But that should be 18th December 1910, surely)

Suggest Kevin joins ancestry to look at that.

But I was waiting for the poster to confirm, if possible.

That Goodall family tree on Ancestry goes back to Thomas Goodall, born in 1727 in Wield, Hampshire, apparently.
