I am interested in any Youlton family, but especailly in Devonport in the early 1800's, London, and Liverpool.

Hi Barb,

Have just discovered a YOULTON (we thought it read Goulton before) connection.

A Mary YOULTON b. about 1791??? m. Edward BLACKLER - their children were born at St Helier, Jersey.

On the 1841 Census it stated that Mary was born in England but doesn't say where.

I just thought I'd run these names past you in case you've come across them.

All the best,
Gail (in Australia)

Hi Gail,
Thanks for the reply!
As far as I know Mary isn't directly connected with my branch of the Youlton family - but the name is uncommon so who knows?

The only Mary I have in my database who is approximately the right age is Mary Youlten (the name is frequently misspelled) who was christened in St Mewan, Cornwall June 20th, 1790. Her parents were William and Mary and as far as I know she was their only child.

Best wishes,
Barbara

Hi again, Barbara

Another thing that is interesting - some of Mary YOULTON and Edward BLACKLER's children had the middle name of YOULTON and wondered if this was common to people in your database OR if Mary, being the only child and a girl, gave it to her children to keep the name alive???

Either way, it may help connect the dots ... what do you think?

All the best,
Gail

Hi Gail,
I have found Youlton given as a middle name on a few occasions, and it was always the child of a female Youlton.

There were two recurring names in our branch.  William Webster Youlton (the first born in 1810) and John Hyne Youlton (his brother born in 1814).  Both names were carried down through the generations.  Coincidentally, their brother James was married to Mary (nee Lampen) - who was born c1793. Their older daughter was born in St Helier, and the younger in St Peters, in Guernsey.  I wondered whether James had died and left Mary a widow who then married Edward Blackler, but they were together in the 1851 census, so I doubt it was your Mary Youlton.

Best wishes,
Barbara
