William Frederick Jones
« on: Sunday 24 September 17 11:55 BST (UK) »
I am looking for information for one of my pensioners who has just been diagnosed with vascular dementia. This gentleman was her father who married in 1934 Ethel May Jennings. she cannot remember their parents but only the words 'Bude' and also thinks one of them had the name 'Slaymaker'. I will apply for the marriage certificate for William Frederick Jones but any assistance greatly appreciated.Thank You, David

Is this the marriage in Eton reg district, June qtr 1934, vol 3a, p 2782?  If so, the bride's name appears to be Edith M Jennings.

Have to go and eat now, back later :)

Edith May Jones, born 1915, is showing on the 1939, with William F Jones(1913) and 1 other person(closed).

This might be William's birth:

Births June quarter  1913
William F Jones mmn Wheeler    Eton

and this might be his parents' marriage, but rather speculative:

Marriages December quarter 1911
William Jones     Eton
Alice E Wheeler     Eton

In case you haven;t realised, Stratton, where Edith was born and her parents married, is in Cornwall and includes the town of Bude

And coming to the Slaymaker connection there was a Sarah A Slaymaker living with the Jone's in 1939.

Delving back a little it seems that Alice E. Wheeler was actually Alice Esther Wheeler, birth Dec.qtr.1884 Eton - had already suspected from census but GRO birth index shows she was illegitimate.

Alice Esther Wheeler would appear to be the daughter of Sarah Ann Wheeler bc.1864 (daughter of William and Esther).

Sarah Ann Wheeler married a Walter Slaymaker in 1888 but they had no children together.

Looks as if Alice Esther Wheeler had at least 3 illeg. children herself before she married William Jones (Nellie May in 1903, George in 1907 and Edith Hester in 1909) so no idea if William was their father.

So 'Bude' and 'Slaymaker' do indeed both fit into this family - Edith May Jennings family living in Bude in 1911 and Alice Esther Wheeler's mother married a Walter Slaymaker.
