Help with 1881 census image
« on: Tuesday 02 August 05 12:39 BST (UK) »
I wonder if SKS with access to the 1881 census images can check the following reference for me:

RG11; Piece/Folio 4509/101; Page Number 1 (Armley Prison, Leeds)

I'm interested in the entry for Annie BOYD, who is a 49-year-old married servant in the household.  I'm wondering whether the LDS transcript might be in error, and whether the surname might actually be BOYLE.

My Ann/Anna/Annie BOYLE disappears after 1872.  She's not with her husband (who resides in Leeds) in 1881, but I can't find a death record that fits.  This Annie is the right age, right birthplace, right marital status, and the other servant in the household is a young William KAY, an intriguing name, since KAY was Annie's maiden name.

Many thanks

Thanks Joe,

As you can tell, I'm getting to be at my wits' end trying to figure out if she's dead or alive!

All the best

Thanks for trying Joe,

I really don't think she was alive in 1881, but I need to consider all possibilities.  She was alive in 1872, when her last child was born.  FreeBMD coverage of deaths from 1872 to 1881 is pretty complete, and of course, 1837online fills the gaps.  No sign of her, though!

Cheers

Tim

Have you considered the possibility that she had seperated from her husband and "married again"

Just a thought, but a fairly well known practice

Happy hunting

Hi Chris,

Yes, that's a possibility, but by the mid 1870's they'd been together for nigh on 30 years, had 10 children, and she was in her mid-forties.  It happens, I know, but perhaps more often in modern times (apart from the number of children) than in the 1870s.

Cheers
