I have just discovered that he is my ggg grandfather and i am trying to find out more about him and his first wife, Margaret. I believe they were married in England. Is anyone connected with him?
Thank you.

Is this the same man (note 'court martial')

According to this topic, he had no children with his first wife Margaret, but had children with his second wife Elizabeth, nee Eldridge

Yes, but unfortunately the other rootschat topic (linked) doesn't give any sources for the information posted, even when another poster asks for it.

I couldn't find the '1818' marriage to 'Margaret' in 'Liverpool' mentioned
The closest I could find for a Margaret was this record
(from the familysearch site)
John Henry Emerson
Spouse's Name   Margaret Gibson
Event Date   14 May 1816
Event Place   Lee, Kent, England

Interestingly there does seem to be a connection between the military and 'Lee, Kent' in 1815 (Lee was within the London Boroughs of Lewisham and Greenwich)
'In 1815 cavalry and foot regiments passed through Lee Green on their way to the Battle of Waterloo:..'
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee,_London

He was 'court-martialed', so in the armed forces at some point. He might have been stationed in 'Dublin' and then brought to 'Woolwich' for trial?

To Jamjar and Sally , this is my first ever post and reply, so Please bear with me. Yes to everything you have found. John was in the army, court-martialled at Woolwich, transported to NSW for 14 years. Somehow his wife Margaret ended up here and at one stage he seems to have been assigned to her. Then, once Free or on ticket of leave he committed another massive fraud (first fraud was part of why he was court martialled) was tried, sentenced to death but that was commuted to life on Norfolk Island. He returned from Norfolk. Margaret died in 1840. He and Elizabeth had four children and married in 1848. I'm descended from one of those four, William. I am trying to fill in the England blanks. Thanks for all your help especially the Trove pieces. I did not have them at all.
