It was Walter who was the doctor. The last time I can see him returning to the UK was in 1925 and he died in 1940 (of Orchard Chase Side, Southgate).  His estate was sworn at £47772.

Dr. Walter Hull, of Southgate, Middlesex, formerly of Sydney, New South Wales, left gross estate valued at £47,771 (net personalty £47,677). After a few personal legacies, he left the residue of his property to Dr. Barnardo’s Homes.......

His was Arthur Grove or Arthur G. Hull.
I have been told: "There was an uncle who was sent to Australia as a remittance man never got there, he was reported to have jumped ship at Cape Town. The family of Hulls who have lived in Bulawayo, Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) for years, we know are descendants of that Hull, because a few years ago, a boyfriend of one of the Hulls there mistook Ann Hull's daughter (Juliet Coombe) for his girlfriend, they were amazingly alike and the granddaughter was taken to meet the family, where they discussed their ancestors and found that they were all related.

Thank you.
That puts a whole new aspect on it, as I have records of Walter in the Royal Artillery during WW1. but then again, if it was easy, it would not be fun!

Puzzled - the Walter Hull who served initially in the Royal Horse Artillery was born in Bermondsey in 1880, was a barman, signed on in 1900, married Ethellenda Williamson in 1905, two children, served until 1908, re-engaged in 1912 in Sec D Reserve, mobilised in the RHA in 1914, transferred in 1916 to the Royal Flying Corps then to the RAF in 1918 and finished service in 1919.

Doesn't sound like your Dr Walter - or perhaps you have discounted him (the RHA man) already?

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Would be helpful if you told us exactly what record you have found him on "travelling without his wife". In particular - what date and what was his occupation?

Have you looked for a marriage for him on freebmd to establish his wife's name/age

Have you looked for him on any census to see if any children are shown

I am really confused. I have records:
W G Hull Lieutenant, Acting Major Gazette Date:18/05/1917
And
Walter Grove Hull Temporary Captain, Acting Major Gazette Date: 28/12/1917
These could be the same person?
I have also been told that after the war Walter worked at Le Roys et Fils, while the person mentioned by Dundee also fits - the address Southgate (his sisters) and leaving nearly everything to Dr. Barnardo’s.
