Help needed in Twickenham please
« on: Tuesday 02 August 05 19:00 BST (UK) »
I am hoping that someone could please help me regarding information on a family called Sanderson who in 1881 and 1891 were living in Twickenham.

In the 1881 census Charles and Emma Sanderson were living with their children at Church Court Church Street Twickenham.  In the 1891 census they had moved to 49 Colne Road Twickenham.  Charles would have been born about 1848 and Emma around 1852.  However I cant find a record of a birth for a Charles Sanderson around that time in that area.  I have been going around in circles, from one library to another, from one archive to another, from Freebmd to 1837online and found nothing.

Does anyone have any idea where I can go next please as I appear to have hit a brick wall.     ???

Many thanks
Carol

Hi Carol

I assume that you haven't found Charles with any certainty in 1871, 1861 or 1851?  Do you have the details from his marriage?

Hello

No I havent been able to find a record of their marriage as yet but I can tell you that their first child Charles Sanderson was born in 1873.  Also I have a birth certificate for Edward Emmanuel Sanderson who was born in 1885, the certificate names Henry and Emma Sanderson as his parents living at Church Court Church Street.  The census' say that the father's name is Charles not Henry, so I imagine one name was a middle name.  Edward would be my great grandad.

Unfortunately I do not have access to the census' that you mentioned.

Thank you
Carol

Hi Carol

So we could be looking for a Henry or a Charles?

What was Emma's maiden name on her son's birth certificate?

Hi

It's difficult to say about that one.  The area is right but the names dont all match up, although a few are right and of course they could have spelt Sanderson wrong.  Hmmm not sure.

Carol

Hi

Emma's maiden name on Edward's certificate was Leebridge.  The census says that she was born in London Middlesex.  I have not been able to find a record of a birth for her, there is one for Emma Frances Leebridge in Shoreditch 1853 however, but I dont know if this would be the right one.

I have found a record of a marriage for a Charles Sanderson and an Emma Read in December 1873 in Kensington, of course the surnames are different, it could mean that I have the wrong Edward but I would be surprised if that was wrong.  It's rather confusing isn't it?

Thank you for the help you're giving me.

Regards
Carol

Hi Carol

I'm just going to post the 1881 census here so we can all see the family clearer:

1881

Church Court, Church Street, Twickenham

Charles SANDERSON head mar 33 lab b.Brentford Mdx
Emma wife 29 b.London
Charles son 8 b.Twickenham
Emma dau 6 b.Twickenham
Henry son 4 b.Twickenham
Rose dau 2 b.Twickenham

RG11/1341 folio 8 page 12
...............

Looking for the name LEEBRIDGE throws up 2 births in the Brentford registration district which covers Twickenham:

Charles LEEBRIDGE b.1873 and Emma b.1875

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com

I wonder if these two could be the two eldest children on the above census return ie. born before any marriage of Charles SANDERSON to Emma LEEBRIDGE?

What about this one ???

Emma LEEBRIDGE married either Henry SANDERSON or Josiah HEYHOE Middlesborough registration district 1875 - this would certainly fit datewise if the two eldest children were born before marriage.

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com

Perhaps Henry was his real name but he was known as Charles by family & friends?

Best wishes

Casalguidi :)
