Dave, the reference you found on family search, apparently referring to an Ancestry Tree is an error:-
1746 at Topcliffe, YorkshireJohn Hood married Elizabeth Wright.
The reference to the Brother in Law in the above John Hood, Will, Proved 1794, refers to the 1746 Marriage.
1808 at Topcliffe, YorkshireWilliam Wright married Elizabeth Hood.

Hello Dave and All,
Their assumptions seem to rely on their claims that:-
a) Elizabeth Wray, dying in the Registration District of Scarborough in 1843 was the Widow of John Wray, but she was not his widow, therefore incorrectly assuming her nee Elizabeth Hood.
Had they purchased and checked the 1843 Death Certificate, they would see this was
not the Widow of John Wray and was
not therefore nee Elizabeth Hood.
I keep banging on to fellow researchers - Death Certificates can be important too!
b) A failure to check who Elizabeth Wright, marrying a John Hood in 1746, actually was, and that she was linked to Topcliffe (not Scarborough) and a failure to check the Hood of Topcliffe Wills.
c) Had they checked the Scarborough Marriages, they would see that Elizabeth Wray, Widow, remarried before her Death, Matthew Malton and died as Elizabeth Malton.
d) Had they checked the Scarborough Register and Marriage Licences (Borthwick Institute) and the Scarborough Marriage Register and the Selby Dades Register, their Marriage could be the 1759 John Hood = Elizabeth Hood, (both surnames Hood), marriage at Scarborough (which you have also noticed Dave).
e) they make reference to a Surgeon, this might be Thomas Williford late of Scarborough Surgeon.
Thomas Williford was the Father of Elizabeth Hood, according to the North Yorkshire property Deed Memorial at Northallerton Record Office, which also mentions Richard Hood of Stamford Bridge.
North Yorkshire Deed Memorials Book CR ; 116 ; No 199 Rich'd Hood to Geo Beilby.
In the document text spelt George Bielby and this also makes a reference to the Will of Thomas Williford of Scarborough, Surgeon (not seen).
1794 Scarborough Marriages
Richard Hurd of Stamford Bridge, in the Parish of Catton, Grocer, married Elizabeth Williford of Scarborough and they ended up at Stamford Bridge.
