Hi Antoinette and welcome to rootschat.  :)

Do you mean born Strand? Do you have Edward in the 1871 census with his family?

What exactly are you looking to find about Edward?

Hello, Antoinette, and welcome. You'll find great help on here, but it helps researchers to be given as much information as you actually have, about the person you want aid with. Do you know any of his siblings, descendants, or parents, or spouse?
Threlfall (Southport), Isherwood (lancs & Canada), Newbould + Topliss(Derby), Keating & Cummins (Ireland + lancs), Fisher, Strong& Casson (all Cumberland) & Downie & Bowie, Linlithgow area Scotland . Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)

The 1891 census has this entry:

3 Gamuel Road, Walthamstow

Edward White 23 Athlete - London, Strand
Elizabeth White 23 - wife - London, St Clements

Is that him?

Thank you all for your help.I think Edward White was bit of an enigma. Family said that he was borin Charing Cross 1868. He was christened in St.Martins In the Field. He was a boxer and in 1888 became heavyweight champion of England. He then became a publican in East London [Cable Street being one of them] until he retired. He married twice first wife I think was Elizabeth who died second was my Grandmother Alice. This is all I know. . but I will keep trying

ShaunJ's find of the "athlete" in 1891 (at reply #4) looks very promising in light of the boxing.

From newspaper reports it appears Edward won the amateur heavyweight title in 1887 rather than 1888, as a member of the Belle Sauvage Amateur Athletic Club.

The title fight took place in the gymnasium of the Orion Gymnastic Club at Casterton St, Hackney on Friday 4 February 1887.  E. White (Belle Sauvage A.C.) defeated J. Baltus (Orion G.C.).

(The Sporting Life, 5 February 1887).

Antoinette, can you be a bit more specific about the second marriage (to Alice) from which you are descended?  What children did Edward and Alice have?
