In and out of the Isle of man
« on: Wednesday 03 August 05 10:25 BST (UK) »
I have members of my family that were on the Isle of Man in the 1881 census.
They were

William Glendenning, head, married, 53, publican, bn Shelf, Yorkshire.
Hannah Glendenning, wife, married, 43, landlady, bn Shelf, Yorkshire.
Lofthouse Glendenning, son, single, 16, waiter/inn servant, bn Hunslet, Yorkshire.

They were living at 16 Castle Street, Onchan, Isle of Man.

They were in Yorkshire in 1871 and back in Yorkshire in 1891. I am wondering if anyone has trade directories for that area of that time and if any one could help me find out when they went over and when they left.

Many thanks, Sarah.

I would suggest you try the online Manx Notebook pages:
http://www.isle-of-man.com/manxnotebook/

Go to the search page and type in Glendenning - about 4 or 5 entries come up.  You might also want to try out some alternate spellings.

Good luck
Ruth
