on the birth certificate of one of her children she states it is Falkirk (she registered the birth herself).
What did she say on the birth certificates of the other children?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Only Laura Annie's certificate had ME's place of birth. The previous three(William B, Charlotte and Janet) didn't have a space for place of birth on the registration. We are still waiting for Ada's certificate.

In case someone else is looking I was able to find information about Mary Hardy's (Hardie's) father. He was a Chelsea Pensioner (6th Battalion, Royal Artillery). He had a first wife Jean. Ann McAlpine was his second wife and he was in his 70s! He died in 1 AUG 1860 in Lauriston. His father was James Hardie and mother was Christian Hendrie (Henry or Hendry depending on who spelled it) according to his death certificate.
There is no evidence of Mary (Elizabeth) or her mother Ann after his death until Mary appears in New Zealand and marries in 1865.
ps the birth certificate of her daughter arrived and she place of birth is Stirling so this is the second confirmation that she was born in Scotland.
