Cheshire Records bmd or census
« on: Wednesday 03 August 05 22:48 BST (UK) »
Hi, someone in the Common Room told me to get in touch with Peter Bennett and that you Peter could help. If you are are reading this I hope you can help me. I have a set of gtgtgrandparents Michael and Emily Doyle who came to England from Somewhere in Ireland in the 1840s..In the beginning they lived in Liverpool. They had a son Patrick J Doyle in 1848. Sometime later they moved to Longton Stafford where my gtgrandfather Michael George ( known as George was born ) in September 1850. In 1861 the family lived in Cheshire and by 1871 Michael Doyle the father was a widower still  in Cheshire I think. How would I find out when and where his wife Emily died? If the sons were married in Cheshire and if Michael the father died in Cheshire. I don't seem able to find out where the parents lived in Ireland. Can you help?  :) Tess

Hi Tess
I don't think I can help with where the Doyles came from, as you proberbly know most census would only give Ireland as place of birth. This makes things very difficult to trace and as there are a multitude of Doyles it is not easy to identify the same individual census year to census year. There is also a possibility that they could have been missing from certain years by visiting relatives back home and it seems that your family did like to travel about a bit.

Can you give me the details of the 1901 census for your Michael (George) I will see what can be found.

Hi  Peter,
:(   It wasn't the 1901 census, I think he was dead by then.     I think he died between 1885 when his last child Jane was born at a place called BARNOLDSWICK.. and 1891. By 1891 the little girl had died too, she was six years old.... According to the 1891 census his wife Agnes was a widow and living in Clayton le Moors Lancashire with her other two daughters. The family seem to have lived in Cheshire in 1861 at Nantwich... 1871 Chester.. In the 1881 census  Michael Doyle  the father aged 65yrs was in a home in Birkenhead ( The Little Sister's Home for the Poor and Aged )
Michael ( GEORGE ) in 1881 was living in Haslingden with Agnes  His wife and two daughters..
I was just wondering about the death of Emily Doyle. the marriage of Patrick J Doyle ( son ) The death of Michael (GEORGE )and maybe the death of Michael the father who was in the Home. How do I find out ?  Thanks Tess

Hi Tess

If your looking for a BMD for someone in Cheshire then I suggest you use this site http://www.cheshirebmd.org.uk/ it is free.

If your looking for someones BMD and like you your not sure of where then I would suggest this site, unfortunatly you have to pay https://www.1837online.com/Trace2web/index.html

You could try the FreeBMD, which as the name suggests is free, but is not a complete index of all areas http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

I did have a quick look at the 1891 census and the daughter Jane is still alive and living with her mum and 2 sisters in Clayton-le-Moors  ???

Hi Peter thanks for replying. It was the 1901 Census that Jane was missing. But I found her death on the free bmd in  the Dec 1/4  of 1891 The 1837 on line is a waste of money I have used double credits and can't find anyone. It's like feeding a slot machine. Thanks anyway Tess
