Dr William's Library
« on: Wednesday 03 August 05 23:46 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know where it's possible to find records from Dr William's Library index?  I have a very old birth certificate which was issued there (pre 1837) and has been kept in my family all this time.  I Googled for it and found that it was started by Nonconformists, who wanted their records to carry the same weight as the parish registers.

As far as I can make out, the original registers are in the National Archives, but are there any transcriptions online that anyone knows of?  Also, I would be interested to know if the certificate which I have, is anything of a rarity - I didn't know birth certificates of any description were issued prior to 1837, but this is definitely genuine.

Any info much appreciated, thanks, Veronica  :)
