Searching for the parents of William [edited to remove middle name as I have no proof] John Trowsdale born ca 1785.
This is what I know:
An umbrella maker, married Sarah Sutcliffe in Marylebone in 1805. Burial of Sarah Trowsdale 18 Nov 1830 St Marylebone aged 45 living at Stingo Lane.
A baptism I have found which may be possible: IGI film P009161 in Gilling near Helmsley, Yorkshire. Children of John & Elizabeth [Betty] Browne: William 9/5/1785, Thomas 31/5/1787, Joseph 3/7/1790, Bridget 13/1/1792, Sarah 4/8/1793, John 3/7/1796, Robert 29/4/1798, Elizabeth 29/11/1798, George 13/10/1799 d 18/4/1802.
Not yet found William on 1841 census; his son Charles a minor lived in Market St Marylebone on marriage in 1838 so William may be there; but some Marylebone 1841 sheets are very faint & may not have been indexed; I have browsed through Market Street 1841 HO107/675/7/9 but can see no occupation that looks like umbrella maker.
Death
TROUSDALE, WILLIAM 60
GRO Reference: 1844 M Quarter in MARYLEBONE Volume 01 Page 215
I have the burial record for this - on 25 Feb 1844 aged 58 of Barrett's Court.
This could be him too:
Morning Advertiser 30 Apr 1832:
St Mary-le-bone; 2 guineas reward...William Trowsdale hath deserted his Child James aged 4 years whereby he has become chargeable to this Parish. He is about 6 ft high, very stout, fair complexion, dark hair and blue eyes, by trade a umbrella maker, was formerly a pensioner in the 2d Life Guards at 6d per diem which pension he sold about 1 year ago . Whoever will apprehend [either of] the above shall receive the reward.
The James [Robert] baptised 3 Oct 1828 so 4 in 1832 in Bryanston Squ, Westminster was son of William LABOURER & Sarah of 14 Bowling Green Buildings - so possibly not my man.
I found a record found for William Trowsdale aged 18 on enlistment born Gilling, Yorkshire in 2nd Life Guards Napoleonic War enlisted 1804 discharged 1814. In Muster Books for regiment on ancestry 1808 - 1813. This William ties in with the baptism I found.
There is a record for a pension for William Trowsdale aged 54 in 1814, 17 yr 1 mo in army 1s? £10 - this is really too old for my William.
Any help confirming William's parents - ie finding him on 1841 as a pensioner or umbrella maker born out of county would be fantastic.
Thanks, Josey
