I've traced my ancestry to Thomas Jordan born 23 December 1811 from Kilbride, Kings county. Date and location from his army records - signed on to 69th Regiment at Athlone in Sept 1829 and served until medical discharge in 1851 , then settled back in Offaly.). I have lots of info from military records but can't locate any other siblings or parents. His occupation at 17 was noted as tailor. Would love to find more about Jordan's in this area.....
Hi bclc71,
I have the same ancestor. Thomas Jordan was my 4th Great grandfather.
I have some info on him, but there's a Jordan page dedicated to the family, I can't seem to find it. It was called something along the lines of "In search of castles" etc.
What I do know is that Thomas Jordan although was in the army (Regiment: 69th Regt Of Foot; Rank: PRIVATE; Service number: 717, Athlone) and also the 19th Regiment, he was Married in Galway. Find his army record here:
http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ , Search for "Thomas Jordan 69th" you'll find him as born in Kilbride.
He married on 30 Sep 1844 in Rahoon, County Galway, to Catherine Healy (Hely).
Catherine was born 14 Apr 1825 in Galway to Matthew Healy and Julia O'Brien. Find this info here:
https://registers.nli.ie/ , search for St.Nicholas Est & North church it's in there.
Thomas and Catherine had three children: Catherine (1844), Mary Anne (1848-1849, Malta) and my 3rd Great Grandfather, Joseph (1851-1916).
Find this info also on my public tree at Ancestry.co.uk, search for "O'Raw family tree" or my user name: www_danieloraw or try this link:
