Mary Purse and John Russell

Hoping someone can head me in the right direction for information regarding departure to USA and return to Scotland for the following family.
Mary Purse b: Lochwinnoch1869- d: Paisley 1953
Married 1892 at Cambuslang to John Pearson Russell b: 1867 Glasgow - d: 1956

The Scotland Census 1901 has the family living at 8 Wellside Buildings Cambuslang.  John is a Grocer Assistant and Mary a Grocer Assistant Wife.  With them are their children William born Millport Cumbrae 1896, James born USA 1898 and George born USA 1900. So they must have gone some time between the birth of their son in Millport (although I wonder why they may have been there for the birth) and March/April 1901 although I can find no record of this journey - any thoughts would be appreciated.

By 1911 the family are living at Moreland Cottage Lochwinnoch where John is a Salesman Grocer with the Co-op society.  With them are their children William, Annie, Arthur, Mary and Robert.    This record confirms 7 children born but only 5 living.  James died in 1906 at Lochwinnoch due to diphtheria aged 8years.  I cannot find anything out about George and assume he has died by the 1911 census.

Of the other children Annie Welsh Russell died in 1976 (married to John Guy), Arthur Purse Russell in 1972 (married Ann Irving Gibson) and Mary Pearson Russell in 1955.  Robert ??

Any assistance with passenger lists, the death of George and also Robert would be appreciated.

Death George Laird Russell , age 8 , 1908 Milton Lanark(Scotlandspeople).

Possible arrival in Glasgow on 13/10/1900 on the Sardinian.
Children Master Wm age 5, Master Jas age 3, Master Geo age 1 with Mrs M Russell and what looks like Mr Jas Russell ( ancestry says Mr Jus).

Think this might be them arriving in NY on the Star of California on 9/6/1896. Bound for Boston which would match with the Massachusetts births of the other two children. Ages for John and Mary are about right and William is 9 months ( which would tally with his 1895 birth).
