Hi Bea,

It's also very likely that the Sarah Baigent in the 1841 census is a widow and that her maiden name is not Baigent.

Sarah d/o Jacob is not likely to be your direct ancestor.

Sarah d/o Thomas is more likely, although unconfirmed.

Do you have anything that verifies Sarah's year of birth? Are there any family members wills that mention relatives?

Work backwards with what you know to be true and please post on here with whatever you need help with.

hello solidrock, amondg, Jo,

Thanks for these posts, but I think I have been on the track of the wrong family. It looks like Sarah Ann may have been the daughter of Thomas, and not Jacob Baigent.

I will look at the Hampshire Parish Records.

Jo, there's no-one in my family to ask, I am merely going on records that I can find. I am fairly firm that Sarah Ann Baigent's daughter (Sarah Vince) married into my line. I will  keep plugging away at it.

Thanks again, much appreciated. Bea

Hi Bea,

Maybe we should back up a bit.

When /where did your Sarah Vince marry and to whom?
Did she live until 1851 Census where here year of birth/ place of birth is shown?

Trish :)

Is this your Sarah Vince born to  John Vince and Sarah  nee Baegeant?

Hampshire, Crondall Parish Register
Sarah of John and Sarah Vince Birth 8 Nov 1789 Christened 15 Nov 1789 (7 days) This is recorded on the Pauper page. [Christening record states Sarah was 7 days old at christening.]

Hello again... and thanks for the posts.

This is my understanding, faulty as it seems to be.

Sarah Ann Baigeant married John Vince, Crondall, 27/6/1777.

For trish1170: Their daughter Saran Ann Vince married James Stockwell, at Hayes Hillingdon in November, 1827.

For solidrock: I have now located Sarah and James Stockwell in the 1861 and '71 census, Sarah Ann is listed as being born in Reigate, Surrey on both. Can't see them in the 1841 or 1851.

I am still muddling around about which Sarah Ann Baigeant marr. John Vince.

I am so grateful for your patience,

Bea

Hello again...

Witness Thomas Baegent, I am now thinking, was probably Sarah Ann's father. I saw a copy of this marr. certificate online and I think now this is the right one.

I can't place Fanny Chandler. Is 'Fanny' likely to be another form of 'Frances', as I found in another ancestor?

Jas Stockwell in the 1841 sounds good, too. He was born abt. 1798 and is listed in other census as a labourer.

Thanks everyone, Bea.
