Burial place of George Croston d.1956 in Broadstairs, Kent
« on: Thursday 01 March 18 10:59 GMT (UK) »
:) The following are the details of this ancestor's death. I have a feeling that the cemetery which would service Broadstairs, where he died, is the one at St.Peters, unless he had been cremated. If anyone could help us find his grave we would very much appreciate it.

Birth Year (Estimated):   1874

Thank you,
OzzieJoan

Unfortunately we moved from St Peters less than a year ago so cannot visit the cemetery by walking through our back gate!

However, I know that H Noble (Funeral Directors) hold the Burial Records for the St Peters Cemetery, or at least they did.  Telephone 01843 862503, probably not an option if you live in Oz.  They have a page on Facebook and I believe a website.  So try searching to find an easier means of contact.

Tony (late of St Peters)  :(

Hi Tony,
Thank you very much indeed for that information. My cousin, whose more direct ancestor George Croston is, will be delighted to be able to contact Noble's.

I used to live in Broadstairs eons ago and wish I were there now. No place like home.

Kind regards,
OzzieJoan

Hi Ozziejoan,

Not sure you would want to be there at the moment; a bit taters.  I lived there for some 36 years and we only moved to be nearer our grandson.  I spent many hours in the churchyard hunting for headstones and clearing away the undergrowth.

He will probably be in the last but one section, underneath the arch, unfortunately the area where it is quite badly overgrown.

Good luck,
Tony

Hi Tony, you're probably right. Do I detect that you are from "oop nawth"?  It's the only time I've heard the word 'taters' used and that's by a distant cousin (in both senses of the word) who lives in Leigh. In fact, I just got an email through from him with another link to the BBC website with more news of the weather. Will go take a look.

I should say that whilst born in Ramsgate I am from Lancashire AND Yorkshire stock. ::)

Thanks again,
Joan

Hi Joan,

No I am about as southern as you can get.  Taters in the mould, Cockney rhyming slang.

My wife was born and bred in Ramsgate but, her father was from Yorkshire.  I originate from north-west Kent and apart from three years as a child have lived here all my life.  Mind you I have been to Oz many times to visit my brother and his family.

Hope the grave (and headstone) is easily located.

Tony

Hi again, thanks for giving me the full bit of rhyming slang - now I can tell my cousin what it is he is saying when he uses it.

As I said, and I'll say it again, lucky you spending a life in Kent.

Cheers,
Joan
