If the right family, John Rogers of Llansaint was baptised at St Ishmael on 7th December 1834, son of John and Sarah.

Thanks for your help all! This would make sense as Mary Janes' son (my great grandfather) was a Benjamin, so possibly named after the brother. I will have a dig through tonight and give an update :)

Hi
I wonder if the birth place could be Carmarthen rather than Carnarvon?
There is a Mary J Rogers in the 1891 Census living in Brynhfryd, Swansea. RG12/4471/17/45.
Father John Rogers Stone Quarryman age 38 born Llansaint, Carmarthen.
Mother Esther Rogers age 35, born Glamorganshire. They have a seven children including Mary.
This Mary J Rogers appears in the 1901 Census living in Llanwonno, Pontypridd, RG13/5004/80/16.
Strangely she is the daughter of William Roberts and Ellen Roberts, could be a typo error, but she is aged 14 birth place Pembrey, Carmarthenshire.

Glyn

I've had a look at the 1891 census and shes down as a May J Rogers, could that have been short for Mary? There's also an older sister Mary A, but I suppose it wasn't unheard of to have two children with the same name back then.
It would make some sense as on the 1911 census shes down as being born in Carnarvonshire, and her husband is down as being born in Glamorgan, but he's actually from North Wales and my gran was under the impression they had both moved down to south wales for work. So looks like whoever took the census made a mixup of where they were both from.

If you look at the image of 1891 census her name could be Mary J but rather a scrawl  :)
