Ah ....you may wish to create a separate post on the Scotland boards with everything you know about him. On the right side of the home page, scroll down to Scotland and post away. :)

On the census he says he immigrated in 1902, just going to have a look for that passenger
list.

My reLatives thought he was John but I think there is some kind of situation where some people called Ian and John are called vice Versa

Iain/Ian is gaelic for John
