On the attached document they have an infant named Ernest.

You may want to look at FreeBDM at births between 1917-18. You may come up with a maiden name.

There are no births with family and maiden name Allen.

The Mawby’s arrived in 1908 on the ‘Ophir’. Robert Osborn 41, farmer wife Lucy Sophia 42 and 2 sons Robert Noel Anthony 12 and Geoffrey 11. All from Suffolk.

The family ALLEN, nominated on the card in 1908, arrived on Waipara on 31st July 1909.
The dates shown are all in the last couple of months of 1908.

From the original passenger list, Charles ALLEN was a fruiterer.
Of possible interest, one Roland ALLEN was on the same voyage. Aged 25, a sign writer.
However, of course Allen is a common surname.
His Brisbane death: 1915 B21011 Robert Osborne Mawby parents Robert Mawby and Sarah Cocking

MAWBY.—At the Mater Misericordiae Hospital, on 1st April, 1915, Robert Osborn Mawby, beloved eldest son of the late Robert Mawby, Esq., J.P., of Spalding, Lincolnshire, England, aged 49 years. Home papers please copy.

Jamjar

Added: Of note is that if it is the correct Robert, then he died before the dates on the certificate you have provided.

This chap died a few years after the arrival of the ALLENs

On the shipping record for departures from UK, Charles ALLEN is recorded as an assistant. ???

The ship Waipara departed from London on 28th May 1909 and Ernest's age is recorded as 1/12.

This I would take to be one month old. It is likely infant ages were rounded to the nearest month, so he may have been almost 8 weeks, or just over 4 weeks.

It places his birth within the 4 to 7 weeks prior to departure.

I would search for a birth in the March quarter of 1909 and the June quarter of 1909.

Silly me, I don’t know why I kept reading it as 1918 as opposed 1908.  :(

Maybe they went back to the UK with Mrs Lucy Mawby.  ;) She is next of kin on sons Oz military record and is down as being in UK.

Given that they were living in East Finchley, in the Borough of Barnet, this is a possible birth:

Oh my goodness you've found so much info it's great but it's so confusing!

I know for 100% certainty Charles Allens parents were Charlotte and Frederick and he left for Australia never to be seen again..

The death record for Ernest in Australia is interesting,

How does Kate Compton fit into it when Mary Allen left with him as his wife on passenger list?

Apologies if I'm not taking it in correctly!
I'm so determined to find out but it makes brain hurt ..lol x
