I am trying to find about about Isaac Moyer's father Benjamin and wondered if anyone could help please?
I have no idea when he was born and have guessed 1795. I have no idea where he was born, where he died or when he died (he is not on the 1941 census with his family - Whitechapel, Artillery Piece 710, Book 13, Folio 45, Page number 19). I found Benjamin's son Isaac (born Bethnal Green) on the 1941 census with his mum Catherine. She came from Holland. Her mother or her mother-in-law given that they are both Myers (also from Holland) is called Sarah Myers and is with Catherine on the 1961 census (Whitechapel, Artillery Piece 264, Folio 24
Page number 24. They are Jewish.
Children with Catherine:
Jacob Myers (1826–) Abt. 1826 • Middlesex, England
Aaron Myers (1829–) Abt. 1829 • Middlesex, England
Isaac Moyers (1829–1905) 1829 • Bethnal Green, Middlesex, England
Henry Myers (1835–) Abt. 1835 • Middlesex, England
Julia Myers (1838–1917) Abt. 1838 • Aldgate, London, England
Abraham Myers (1841–) 1841 • London, England
1841 Census • Christ Church Spitalfields, Middlesex, England
The only reason I know Benjamin exists is because of the parish information when Isaac got married in West Bromwich, Staffordshire 1849:
Phonetic spelling - Martin Betsey W Bromwich (18 640) Moyers Isaac W Bromwich (18 640) Married 16 July 1849.Groom 23, a widower and a confectioner. Isaac's father is Benjamin MOYERS a sealing wax maker. Bride Betsey Martin age 19, father Jacob Martin confectioner - Betsey Julia Martin
(1829–1871)
Isaac became a confectioner. I have no idea who his first wife was, and am assuming that Betsey was also Jewish.
So Benjamin did exist but I know nothing else about him and don't know where to start! He was either dead by 1841 or had run off (he is not with Catherine in 1851 or 1861 either). I tried the Great Synagogue in London but they didn't reply (his daughter Julia got married there).
If you have any tips for further searches or are pehaps related and know more I would be really grateful for your help.
Best wishes,
Emma
